Description:
Introducing the REGENT, a cost effective end treatment designed by Energy Absorption in conjunction with Bryson Products. This is the first and only flared terminal to be specifically tested in "weak soil" (NHCRP 350 S-2 soil, or concrete sand), making it safe to use in any roadside application.
The design is loosely based upon the MELT systems used in many states, and therefore contains the ability for retrofitting in existing installations (as the MELT did not pass the NHCRP 350 tests). The system integrates standard guardrail products with a specially designed REGENT head assembly. The head is manufactured to stop an impacting vehicle safely, without risk of spearing, vaulting, or rolling.
During head-on impacts, the REGENT slider head moves rearward, fracturing the first breakaway post. This action releases the tension on the downstream guardrail. The guardrail sections of the system are forced rearward and caused to buckle at specific points to move out of the way of the vehicle. The line posts are broken as required to gate the vehicle into the clear zone behind the downstream guardrail.
Angle impacts (after the third post) cause the vehicle to be returned to the original travel path.
The FHWA recommends a minimum obstacle-free clear zone of 75' x 20' (22.5m x 6m) behind a gating terminal system. It is very important to consider clear zone requirements when selecting an end treatment for guardrail applications.
If you are looking for an end terminal that is both cost effective and usable in any soil condition, then you have finished looking, the REGENT IS HERE!
